about
The verses for this song were composed in 1996. In the past two decades, I have written several different choruses in an attempt to come up with something that was not only original but also appropriate for the song. It wasn't until 2017, however, that I came up with something that I really liked. The basics for this particular rendition were tracked at Sacred Heart Studio in Duluth, MN with Christopher McGuire, Alan Sparhawk, and Jake Larson.
lyrics
I feel the message in my head
A place to go and it's not here
We will be taken from our beds
We won't ever need to eat again
Let's track the lights across the sky
Above the plate magnetic fields
We'll sleep in the radar dish tonight
So we'll be ready to receive the sign
I've got a telescope
I've got a sleeping bag
A letter that I wrote
That says, "Dear Mom and Dad,
I wanted you to know
Someday I may return
But now I have to go."
Yeah, yeah yeah
In fields the messages are left
Swathers are quick to wipe away
No photographs, no videos
There's nothing more to see here, look away
I've got a telescope
I've got a sleeping bag
A letter that I wrote
That says, "Dear Mom and Dad,
I wanted you to know
Someday I may return
But now I'm glad to go."
Yeah, yeah, yeah

What an amazing album. A sad and devastating story told triumphantly. A wonderful mix of atmosphere, electronic signatures and as usual, well crafted lyrics. Another gem! Daniel Mayes
